Description
HAND-PAINTED CHESS MEN, KING 110 mm
This is not just a chess game but an artistic creation composed of 32 pieces made primarily from marble dust from the Carrara quarries.
The pieces are smoothed and retouched one by one, then aged and hand-painted by master craftsmen. The entire process takes place in the province of Lucca, Italy.
In particular, these chess pieces represent the unification of Italy.
The king is Vittorio Emanuele, the queen is his wife Rosa, the bishop represents a rifleman in the uniform and colors of the period, the same goes for the mounted carabiniere, who was taken from the Battle of Pastrengo, the rook is the flag of our Italy, and the pawn represents a Piedmontese soldier.
Opposing the Austrians is the royal family of Franz Joseph Sissi, with the Austrian grenadier representing the standard bearer, the dragoon on horseback, and the Austrian soldier as the pawn.
Because they are entirely handmade, the heights may vary by a few millimeters.
Chessboard not included.
