Robert Hübner - Hardcover

Dombrowsky Michael

Libro in Tedesco / German language

Robert Hübner (1948–2025), from Cologne, was the most successful German chess master since World War II, battling against the greats of his time—a man of many talents.

In days of conversation, he told Michael Dombrowsky what truly moved him beyond the competitions: his love of ancient Greek classics, Finnish short stories, and his aversion to self-righteous officials. It is the impressive life story of a man who always wanted to be more than just a good chess player.

Medals and Honors
Robert really wasn't the type to place much value on medals, plaques, certificates, prizes, and trophies. In fact, he didn't care about them. To get rid of the sometimes massive and heavy trophies without offending the organizers, Robert developed very inventive strategies. Two anecdotes illustrate his attitude toward these "awards."
