Alexander Alekhine and Correspondence Chess - 2nd hand

The last correspondence tournament Alekhine took a part in, was organized by the magazine "Schachmatnoje obosrenije" in 1909-1910. Certainly correspondence play contributed to the technical shaping of his style, which he could not attain by attending tournament on the board: in those young years he was present only at very few such tournaments. Thanks to the technical ripeness he got playing by correspondence he obtained excellent results in 1908 at the Dusseldorf Tournament and in 1909 at the St. Petersburg Tournament where he won. Then he was recognized as a Master.
